Job Description:
We are currently partnering with several local councils across Melbourne’s eastern and western suburbs to recruit multiple Planning Compliance & Enforcement Officers for contract opportunities.
These positions sit within council planning departments and play a critical role in upholding statutory planning controls in accordance with Victorian legislation. A strong working knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (VIC) is essential for success in this role.

These positions sit within council planning departments and play a critical role in upholding statutory planning controls in accordance with Victorian legislation. A strong working knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (VIC) is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate alleged breaches of planning permits, planning schemes, and the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (VIC)
- Conduct site inspections and gather evidence to support enforcement and legal proceedings
- Issue Planning Infringement Notices, Formal Warnings, and other statutory notices in line with Victorian legislation
- Prepare detailed reports, briefs of evidence, and documentation for legal action where required
- Liaise with property owners, developers, legal representatives, and internal stakeholders to resolve compliance matters
- Manage a caseload of enforcement matters from initial complaint through to resolution or prosecution
- Demonstrated experience in a Planning Compliance or Enforcement role within a Victorian local council (essential)
- Strong knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (VIC) and relevant planning schemes
- Experience preparing enforcement documentation and supporting legal proceedings
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive or complex situations
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
