The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Principal Planner to join a highly regarded multidisciplinary consultancy in Brisbane.

This is a senior position suited to an established planning professional who has progressed beyond technical delivery and is ready to play a genuine leadership role within a consulting environment.

You will lead and mentor a team of planners, oversee the delivery of a diverse portfolio of development projects and act as a trusted point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
The role will suit someone who combines strong Queensland planning expertise with commercial acumen, project leadership and a genuine ability to develop people.

About the Role
Working across a diverse portfolio of development projects, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading, mentoring and supporting a team of Town Planners at varying levels of experience.
  • Delegating projects and responsibilities effectively while maintaining oversight of quality, deadlines and client outcomes.
  • Providing senior-level planning advice across complex development projects.
  • Managing projects from inception through to approval, ensuring planning, commercial and client objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinating and project managing external consultants across multidisciplinary development projects.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, developers, consultants, government agencies and other project stakeholders.
  • Applying a thorough understanding of Queensland's planning framework to deliver commercially practical outcomes.
  • Managing competing priorities, project deadlines, budgets and resources effectively.
  • Reviewing and maintaining high standards across planning reports, applications, strategic advice and project documentation.
  • Supporting the ongoing development of junior and mid-level planners through coaching, guidance and exposure to complex projects.
  • Contributing to the broader leadership and direction of the planning team.
About You
You will be an experienced Queensland planning professional with a strong background in private-sector consulting .

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
  • Proven experience leading or managing a team of Town Planners.
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland planning legislation, policy, approval pathways and development processes.
  • Significant experience within a planning consultancy environment rather than experience predominantly gained within local or state government.
  • A track record managing projects across sectors such as residential, commercial, mixed-use, hotels, tourism or other major development projects .
  • Strong project management capability, including the coordination of multiple technical consultants.
  • High commercial awareness and an understanding of project scope, budgets, resourcing, fees and profitability.
  • Confidence working directly with clients and providing senior-level advice.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • A collaborative and personable leadership style with a genuine interest in developing others.
More Than Just Technical Planning
This role is suited to someone who has developed a strong personal brand and reputation within the Queensland planning and development market.

You may already have an established network of clients, developers and industry contacts. While business development is not the primary focus of the position, the ability to leverage your existing relationships and market credibility will be highly regarded.

Most importantly, you will be someone people want to work with - a confident communicator, commercially minded professional and natural leader who can bring people together around successful project outcomes.
