An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Planner to step into a lead strategic role within a progressive regional council located approximately 3 hours north of Melbourne .

This is a high-impact position where you’ll play a key role in shaping future growth areas, delivering major planning projects, and influencing long-term development outcomes across the municipality.
  
About the Role
You’ll take ownership of complex strategic planning projects from end to end, driving key initiatives that support population growth and sustainable development. This includes working across Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs), Development Contribution Plans (DCPs) , and a diverse pipeline of projects ranging from rural and industrial strategies to planning scheme amendments .
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of strategic planning projects, including PSPs, DCPs, local structure plans and planning scheme amendments
  • Manage combined amendment and permit applications, ensuring high-quality and timely outcomes
  • Oversee consultants and technical studies, ensuring value for money and strong project governance
  • Prepare and manage Development Contribution Plans to support infrastructure delivery
  • Engage with community, stakeholders and government agencies to drive informed planning outcomes
  • Represent Council at panels, tribunals, hearings and public forums
  • Contribute to policy development and long-term strategic direction for the municipality
About You
  • 8–10 years’ experience in strategic and/or statutory planning
  • Strong technical expertise across PSPs, DCPs and planning scheme amendments
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and preliminary reports
  • Experience overseeing consultants and multidisciplinary inputs
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to operate autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team
