A well-established Melbourne building company with 30+ years' experience delivering high-end residential, commercial, hospitality and alpine projects is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its leadership team. This is a rare opportunity to work directly alongside the Managing Director on a day-to-day basis, with genuine influence over pricing strategy, contractor relationships and project selection.
The business delivers projects from $1.5M to around $12M across design and construct, early contractor involvement and construct-only delivery models. You'll be trusted to run the estimating function with autonomy, backed by a business that values commercial judgement over process for its own sake.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate, commercially sound estimates and tenders for projects ranging from $1.5M to $12M
- Manage the full estimating process from feasibility and cost planning through to tender submission
- Source and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers, leveraging your own trade and contractor network
- Work closely with the MD/Owner on pricing strategy, risk allocation and project selection
- Review drawings, specifications and scope documentation to identify risk and opportunity
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants and repeat subcontractors
Essential Requirements
- Proven senior estimating experience on projects in the $1.5M–$12M range
- An established base of contractor and subcontractor relationships you can bring with you
- Strong Excel-based estimating skills (no reliance on dedicated estimating software)
- Sound commercial acumen and the maturity to operate with minimal oversight
- Experience across design and construct or ECI delivery models
- A construction-related trade, degree or diploma (preferred, not essential)
Desirable Extras
- Background across residential, commercial, hospitality or specialist fit-out sectors
- Existing client relationships that could translate into future work
- Experience mentoring junior estimating or pre-construction staff
