A metropolitan Melbourne council is seeking an experienced Senior Landscape Architect to join their Open Space & Landscape Design team on a contract basis.
This is a hands-on role delivering capital works and operational programs across the public realm — from concept design through to documentation and project delivery. You'll provide specialist support to the Coordinator, mentor junior team members, and play a key role in shaping the council's open space strategy.
About the role:
- Prepare landscape design concepts, master plans, cost estimates, working drawings and specifications for capital works and operational projects
- Project manage capital works to achieve high-quality outcomes on time and on budget
- Assist in developing strategic plans relating to open space development
- Provide technical direction on Building, Town Planning and Subdivision referrals
- Produce landscape and presentation drawings using AutoCAD, Photoshop and InDesign
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, community members and external contractors/consultants
- Mentor and support junior staff within the team
- Previous Local Government experience
- A minimum of 5–7 years' experience in Landscape Architecture, with strong design and documentation/technical skills for delivering public realm projects
- Experience developing open space capital works proposals
- Sound knowledge of landscaping and open space considerations within the statutory planning context
- Advanced AutoCAD skills
- A degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or equivalent
- Experience preparing strategic plans, policies and guidelines for public space
- Strong project management, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
