Our client is a growing rural shire in western regional Victoria. The Engineering team plans and delivers the council's capital works program, covering roads, bridges, drainage and footpaths. The team also manages GIS and asset data across the shire. You'll get a varied, hands-on workload in a close-knit team, plus the lifestyle benefits of regional Victoria.
About the Opportunity:
The council needs an experienced Senior Project Engineer on a temporary basis. You'll report to the Manager Engineering. You'll plan, manage and supervise projects in the Capital Works and Strategic Development programs from scoping through to handover.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scope future projects in line with Council plans and strategies, and prepare engineering reports
- Review or prepare designs, design briefs, technical specifications and tender documents
- Supervise internal CAD designs so they meet current standards
- Run tender evaluations and prepare evaluation reports and recommendations
- Prepare documents for government grant applications and acquittals
- Coordinate approvals and permits for civil infrastructure projects
- Build project schedules, risk registers and contingency plans
- Manage contracts, budgets, variations and quality plans, and supervise construction
- Liaise with the community, utilities, statutory authorities and internal teams
- Carry out post-completion inspections and make sure assets are capitalised correctly
- Support the Manager Engineering in running the team and the capital works program
- A recognised degree in Civil Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer in Victoria
- Proven project and contract management experience on roads, bridges and other civil infrastructure across the whole project life cycle
- Onsite experience managing infrastructure construction, ideally in local government or a state road authority
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment and techniques
- Experience in scoping, estimating, contract documentation and tendering
- Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder skills
